Hawkbill Base Submarine Memorial Fund

    The Hawkbill Base formally requested financial assistance from the Charitable Foundation Memorial Committee.

    After review of the request the committee authorized a donation of $200.00 toward the construction costs of this project.

    The formal presentation of the check was made during the 2003 National Convention at the Base Commanders/USSVI Leadership meeting in Reno Nevada.

    Presentation was made by Gordon D. Clark, Chairman of the Charitable Foundation Memorial Fund.

    Thank you to those individuals who donated to the fund and made this award possible.

Hawkbill Base is beginning a fund raising effort for a Memorial in honor of ALL submarines and crew members lost since 1900.

The Memorial stone will be placed with the sail of the USS HAWKBILL  SSN-666 in the city of Arco, Idaho.

The stone will be gray granite, 48" X 32" X 8" placed vertically.

It will display a large set of Dolphins, a large USSVI emblem and silhouettes of a Balao class and a SSN class submarine. All 65 lost boats will be listed by name, hull number and year of loss. Lost crew members will show as "in excess of 4,000".

Hawkbill Base has requested approval to use the US Submarine Veterans' Charitable Foundation as a repository for project donations, so donors may take advantage of a tax deduction according to their tax filing status. Donors should contact their tax professional or the IRS to determine the deductibility of their specific donation.
