| SubVets Caring and Sharing Fund
FY 2002
Approximately $10,000.00 total was distributed
by the USSVI organization to help needy Sailors and their families. This
allowed the program to more than double the FY 2001 distribution to needy
active duty submariner families.
$4,000.00 was distributed to SUBLANT
Sailors, and $4,000.00 was distributed to SUBPAC Sailors. Money was sent
for submarine Sailors in the overseas locations of Guam, Yokosuka Japan,
La Mad, Naples Italy, and all of our little pockets of Submariners were
included. All our SSN, SSBN, and Submarine Support ports as part of the
Submarine Family were included.
The addtional $2,000.00 was direct support
for the program in the Groton, Ct area by USSVI Groton Base. Groton base
also hosted a Thanksgiving Dinner for local active duty submariners at
the School Street Clubhouse, feeding over 300 people, with volunteers doing
the food preparation and serving.
As in prior years, each family received
a certificate in the amount of $30.00 for Christmas Dinner. We feel that
is the least we can do for our brother submariners and their dependants.
Where there was a need, it was met.
Approximately 300 families benefitted
from the generosity of USSVI members this year.
